I recommend planning for camping before you arrive. I would not recommend going to Hana your first night as it is a LONG drive, especially after a long flight...

Travel Area Restrictions:
Nissans are allowed up but We do NOT allow our Vintage VW Campers to be driven up to Haleakala National Park. Crater Road is way too much wear and tear on these vehicles. Same applies for PoliPoli Springs, Waipoli road. Driving on unpaved areas is not allowed. Renter is liable for all damages and towing charges incurred due to operating in unfavorable conditions.
YOU WILL LOSE ENTIRE DEPOSIT FOR DRIVING OFF ROAD AND IN MY RESTRICTED AREAS!
Please note that the County of Maui and State of Hawaii campgrounds require permits obtained in advance by mail or walk-in from their offices. No permits can be obtained at the campsites and you will be asked to leave if you don’t have one. (Wainapanapa state park)

Kipahulu Campground —
Located 10 miles past Hana, near the pools at Ohe’o (Seven Sacred Pools), close to the ocean. It has picnic tables, BBQ grills and outdoot pit toilets. No drinking water so bring your own. The road to Hana with its countless waterfalls, the windy narrow roads and greenery is an attraction in itself.
Kipahulu offers a series of waterfalls forming about 20 separate pools to swim and play in. There is also a great hike here along the stream, pass waterfalls and through a great bamboo forest.

Hosmer Grove Campground -
Hosmer Grove lies in the cloud belt of Haleakalā, at nearly 7,000 feet (2134m) in elevation in the Summit District. Come prepared for rain and cold weather! The forest comes to life in the early dawn with the many native birds in the area, making this a beautiful early morning hike.
Six designated sites are located in an open, grassy area near the forest and shrubland of Hosmer Grove. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and access to potable water. The campground has pit toilets located in the parking lot. All vehicles must park in a designated parking space within the paved lot. A self-guided nature trail begins and ends at the campground.
Campers who obtain a reservation to camp at Hosmer Grove campground also receive a reservation to view sunrise the morning after camping. Those without a campsite reservation for Hosmer Grove who wish to view sunrise will need to obtain a reservation through recreation.gov.

This campsite is located on the ocean, off the Hana Hwy 360 right on the ocean.
The campsite is in a beautiful coastal setting. It has some freshwater caves to explore and a
rare black sand beach as well as interesting hiking trails along the ocean. Facilities include
picnic tables, grills, restrooms, outdoor showers and drinking water.
Papalaua Wayside camping - Maui County park. This requires permits acquired from the offices listed below or online through the County website at http://www.co.maui.hi.us Office hours are 8 AM to 1 PM and 2.30 PM to 4 PM (HST) Monday to Friday. Closed on State holidays.

The park lies along Honoapiilani Hwy # 30 on the way to Lahaina along a sandy beach with excellent snorkeling. Shade is provided by kiawe trees. No water supply available. Portable toilets and BBQ grills. Closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Recently renovated, the camp is on the ocean along Hwy 30 about 6 miles south of Lahaina at
Olowalu. It is in a grove of mature trees with picnic tables, drinking water, showers
and toilets. Swimming and snorkeling are good and in the winter months a nice place to watch
whales. Per-person camping fees are $25/ night, $5/night for children 6-12, and free for
children young than 6 years. Has all campground ammenities (laundry, etc.) including free WiFi.
